There are two airports in the counties of East and West Sussex Gatwick Airport in the north Shoreham Airport to the west.

Sussex is only 90 minutes drive from London. Take the A24/A29 via Horsham or the A23/A27 via Gatwick and Crawley.

If you are traveling from the West or East of England take the A27 from Porstmouth or Newhaven. The A259 connects the coastal resort towns.

Sussex boasts a coastline which has miles of imposing cliff scenery and parts of Sussex have been designated areas of Natural beauty.

There are numerous activities you can undertake whilst visiting Sussex take walks along the coastal footpaths, visit Medieval Castles (for example Arundel) and Abbies. Visit Hastings and Battle (Norman Conquest country) Visit Worthing Museum where you can view prehistoric artifacts. Two other areas where you can find Roman artifacts are Fishbourne Roman Palace and Bignor Roman Villa.
The counties still have an active fishing community and a trip to Littlehampton harbour is well worth a visit. If you prefer to spend your days sunbathing Hastings and Littlehampton both have sandy beaches.

Cities in Sussex

Chichester is a vibrant, living city with an excellent range of entertainment, special events, places to stay, restaurants, shops and leisure facilities.

Brighton and Hove is a modern, bustling city, the Lanes is a famous shopping area is definitely a place to visit. Brighton and Hove also offer the traditional English seaside resort summer holiday. The City has two piers one of which is being demolished the other however is still a thriving tourist attraction and should not be missed on your visit to the county.

Other Interesting Areas in Sussex

Steam trains still operate in Sussex and they provide a pleasant means to view the beautiful scenery. Another area to visit if you are a rail enthusiast is Hastings where you can ride the steep cliff railway which takes you to Hastings castle.

Pooh Bear who lives in SussexChildren will love sussex as the home of the Milnes family in Ashdown Forest East Sussex, England, was the basis for the setting of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories. The name of the fictional "Hundred Acre Wood" is reminiscent of the Five Hundred Acre Wood, which lies just outside Ashdown Forest and includes some of the locations mentioned in the book, such as the Enchanted Place.

Children will be able to play the "sport" of Poohsticks (competitors drop sticks into a stream from a bridge and then wait to see whose stick will cross the finish line first.)

The sailing enthusiasts should visit Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Selsey Bill and Chichester Harbour where various Yacht Charter companies run in the area.

A famous event that happens in Bognor Regis is the International Birdman Competition with contestants attempting to fly off from the 1,000 feet long Bognor Regis Pier!

Horse racing enthusiasts will want to visit the race courses of Fontwell or Goodwood.

There are numerous links and fine golf courses in Sussex Worthing Highdown for example.
