Polegate Windmill

The windmill is located in South Downs and is only a short distance from Polegate Town.  It is a 4-storey brick tower mill which was built in 1817, it was last worked by wind in 1942.

The windmill was restored in 1967, with three pairs of millstones and three working oat crushers. Cap and sweeps now turn to wind.

Polegate Windmill was built in 1817 and was originally known as ’Willingdon Mill’ until the boundaries were changed on 1 April 1939 and it became ‘Polegate Windmill’.

Guided tours and a Museum of milling including interactive exhibits.
